It is a unesco World Heritage Site and a must- visit for any tourist in Budapest. The avenue stretches for 2.5 Km from City tot he Danube River and is home to some of the city’s most beautiful arcitectural wonders and histrorical buildings. Built in 1875, the eclectic house was designed by Vilmos Freund.
In 1895, at the request of the new owner Lewy Henrik, Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl renovated the building, during which Art Nouveau decorative elements were added to the street facades. The Three Ravens restaurant and bistro to the right of the gate, and the Opera Café to the left of the gate were both opened in the 1880s and operated until the 1930s on the ground floor of the building - a favorite place for artists, poets and journalists. The Opera coffee house received guests until the end of World War II. After the war, the halls of the café were used as a rehearsal room by the Ballet Institute of the Hungarian State Opera House.
The House of Romanian Culture was housed in the building in 1977, then the Goethe Institute from 1998, within which the Eckermann café opened in the place of the Three Ravens. The building was last completely renovated between 1977 and 1980.
